KBTA’s Comprehensive Program in Kenya
KBTA is dedicated to empowering visually impaired learners in Kenya through innovative programs that enhance educational experiences and provide employability skills. Our Kenyan program focuses on four key projects aimed at equipping the visually impaired community with essential tools, skills, and opportunities.
Bridging the Digital Divide: Provision of Orbit Readers
In line with our mission to make education accessible, KBTA provides Orbit Readers to visually impaired students, offering an affordable solution for accessing digital content. These devices enable students to read textbooks, take notes, and independently engage with learning materials, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Advancing STEM: Access to Scientific Calculators and Coding Tools
STEM education is crucial for the future workforce, and KBTA ensures visually impaired students are not left behind. We distribute scientific graphing calculators and laptops with JAWS to enable complex calculations, scientific learning, and coding activities. Our goal is to ensure visually impaired students have equal opportunities in STEM fields.

Pathways to Employment: Empowering Graduates
KBTA’s Employability Skills Internship is a six-month immersive program for visually impaired young graduates. It includes three months of ICT skills training and industry-specific learning at KBTA, followed by three months of direct work experience with employers. KBTA also works with employers to adopt inclusive practices and supports graduates in securing employment.
Innovation Through Collaboration: Live Labs Research
KBTA’s Live Labs foster innovation in assistive technology through rapid testing and real-time feedback. Innovators work closely with end-users to refine their designs, accelerating product development and ensuring technologies meet the practical needs of visually impaired users.
